Toowoomba Regional Council and state health authorities have issued several public notices and service announcements effective for Wednesday, 8 April 2026. Major Road Closures and Traffic Disruptions
Several significant roadwork projects are entering critical phases this week, requiring temporary closures and detours across the region. Motorists should plan for additional travel time in the following areas:
- South Street, Harristown: A full road closure remains in effect on South Street between Drayton Road and West Street. This closure is scheduled from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm daily through Thursday, 9 April. Signage and traffic control are in place to guide vehicles through established detours.
- Gordon Avenue, Toowoomba: Asphalt resurfacing works will commence on Gordon Avenue between Teesdale Avenue and Bridge Street. The road will be closed to through traffic from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. Access for local residents will be maintained, though minor delays should be expected.
- Clifton Road, North Branch: Reconstruction and widening works continue on Clifton Road. Through traffic is currently being detoured via Pittsworth-Felton Road and Toowoomba-Karara Road. - Highfields Water Main Installation: Ongoing disruptions are expected on Lawrence Road as crews facilitate the installation of new water mains for future reservoir capacity. Traffic control measures will be active throughout the day.
Infrastructure and Flood Recovery Updates
Toowoomba Regional Council has officially activated the next phase of the December 2024 Flood Recovery Program. Maintenance crews are currently prioritizing repairs to damaged road surfaces and drainage systems in the Northern and Southern districts. Members of the public are reminded that the formal notification period for a proposed development in Cabarlah is currently open. The application (Ref: RAL/2025/9075) concerns the reconfiguration of lots at 257 Reushle Road. Submissions regarding this proposal can be lodged with the Council’s planning department until April 28, 2026.
