Major Resealing Works: Widespread Road Closures in East and South Toowoomba Today

Wednesday, 25 March 2026: Traffic and Commute Update
Commuters across Toowoomba should prepare for significant disruptions today as the Regional Council’s bitumen resealing program reaches a critical phase. Several key residential and feeder streets in East Toowoomba, South Toowoomba, and Harristown are scheduled for full short-term closures today, Wednesday, 25 March, between 6:00 am and 4:00 pm. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and allow for extra travel time during the morning and afternoon peaks.
Urban Road Closures and Resurfacing
The following streets are undergoing essential maintenance and will be closed to through traffic for most of the day:
- East Toowoomba: Total closures are in effect on Boyden Street (between Curzon and Wirra Wirra), Cavell Street (between Mary and Mackenzie), Dunmore Street (between Mary and Curzon), Joffre Street (between Dunmore and Campbell), and Lamington Street (between Bridge and Cavell).
- South Toowoomba: Expect delays and detours on Denis Street (between Ruthven and Haig), Grey Street (between Water and Ruthven), and Loudon Street (between South and Morton).
- Harristown: Significant works are concentrated on Camden Street, Christopher Street, Devine Street, Phyllis Street, and Power Street.
In addition to these daily closures, Ballin Drive in Centenary Heights remains closed between Mackenzie Street and Stenner Street for ongoing water main replacement. This project is expected to continue through the end of the month.
Major Arteries and Regional Highway Updates
Those using the Toowoomba Bypass should remain alert for fixed lane closures between the Warrego Highway West interchange at Charlton and the Gore Highway interchange at Athol. These closures are active from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Heavy vehicle operators with loads wider than 3.5 meters must utilize approved detours.
On the Warrego Highway, safety upgrades between Toowoomba and Dalby are currently in the construction phase. While the road remains open, reduced speed limits and audio-tactile line marking installations near Oakey may cause minor intermittent delays. Furthermore, rehabilitation work continues on the Bremer River Bridge; although outside the immediate city limits, this remains a primary concern for those commuting toward Brisbane due to ongoing load restrictions.
Public Transport and Rail
Translink services in Toowoomba are operating on their standard Wednesday schedule. Passengers are reminded that the simplified seven-zone fare structure is in effect. While no major service cancellations have been reported for the urban bus network this morning, school bus routes 964 and 976 may experience slight delays due to the local street closures in Rangeville and South Toowoomba.
