Easter Saturday Traffic and Commute Update

As Toowoomba enters the heart of the Easter long weekend, residents and visitors should prepare for altered public transport schedules and ongoing infrastructure projects across the region's major arteries. Today, Saturday, 4 April 2026, marks Easter Saturday, and while traffic within the CBD remains relatively light for the holiday, significant works on the city's outskirts and holiday-adjusted services require forward planning for those moving around the Garden City.

Public Transport: Sunday Timetables in Effect

For those relying on the Translink bus network today, please be advised that all Toowoomba urban services will operate on a Sunday timetable. This adjustment is standard for the Easter Saturday public holiday and affects all major local routes, including:

  • Routes 901 through 907
  • Route 950 (Highfields to Toowoomba)

Commuters should note that the Sunday schedule will continue through tomorrow and Easter Monday, 6 April. Normal weekday service frequencies and school bus runs are not scheduled to resume until Tuesday, 7 April. Translink recommends using the digital journey planner to check specific departure times, as frequency is significantly reduced compared to a standard Saturday.

Major Roadworks and Highway Upgrades

Motorists traveling beyond the city limits will encounter several active construction zones aimed at improving long-term safety and freight efficiency. While active labor may be limited today due to the holiday, the following zones remain under construction conditions with reduced speed limits:

  • Warrego Highway (Toowoomba to Dalby): Safety improvements are currently being delivered along a 60-kilometre stretch. This project includes road widening and the installation of wide center line treatments. Drivers should expect lower speed limits and potential short delays near Oakey and the Speed Road intersection.
  • Gore Highway (Anzac Avenue): Construction continues on the stretch between James Street and Wyreema-Athol Road. This multi-million dollar upgrade involves intersection improvements and the construction of additional turning lanes. Motorists should stay alert for changed traffic alignments and narrow lanes.
  • Clifton Road Upgrade: Site setup for the North Branch reconstruction project is scheduled to begin this coming Tuesday, 7 April. However, early signage and equipment may already be visible to those traveling south towards Clifton.

City Center and Suburban Outlook

Within Toowoomba itself, traffic is flowing smoothly this morning with no major incidents reported in the CBD or surrounding suburbs. However, the Toowoomba Regional Council has notified residents of upcoming resurfacing works in East Toowoomba, South Toowoomba, and Harristown. While today is clear, be prepared for lane closures on South Street and Drayton Road starting next week. We advise drivers to enjoy the holiday ease but remain vigilant for holiday travelers and increased pedestrian activity around local parks and shopping centers.
