Regional Roadworks and Major Closures

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) and the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) continue to implement significant infrastructure upgrades across the region. Residents and motorists are advised of the following disruptions active on Sunday, 22 March 2026:

  • Toowoomba Bypass: Fixed lane closures remain in effect on both southbound and northbound lanes between the Warrego Highway West interchange at Charlton and the Gore Highway interchange at Athol. These works, focused on pavement stabilization, involve restrictions between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. Heavy vehicle operators with wide loads must utilize approved detour routes via the Warrego Highway and Toowoomba Cecil Plains Road.
  • Ballin Drive, Centenary Heights: The stretch between Mackenzie Street and Stenner Street remains closed to through traffic for critical water main replacement. This closure is expected to persist until the end of March. Local access is maintained via established detours.
  • Reichle Road, Yandilla: Road closures continue for flood recovery culvert replacement. Motorists should follow detours through Owen’s Scrub Road and Church Road.
  • Urban Resurfacing Program: Intensive road resurfacing is currently underway in East Toowoomba, South Toowoomba, and Harristown. Specific street closures are scheduled from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm daily until 25 March. Affected residents are requested to keep road reserves clear of parked vehicles to prevent spray sealing delays.

Public Health Advisory: Measles Vigilance

Darling Downs Health is maintaining a high-level health alert following a confirmed case of measles in the Toowoomba region. Authorities urge the community to monitor for symptoms, which include fever, a persistent cough, runny nose, and a characteristic red blotchy rash. If you suspect you have contracted measles, it is vital to phone your GP or 13HEALTH before visiting any medical facility to prevent transmission in waiting rooms.

Flood Recovery and Environmental Health

Following recent severe weather and flood events in March 2026, residents are cautioned to remain alert to environmental health risks. Public health officials recommend avoiding contact with floodwaters to mitigate the risk of melioidosis. While many flood warnings have been downgraded, motorists are reminded that if a road is flooded, they should not attempt to cross it.

Community Facility Updates

  • Clifton Library: This facility remains temporarily closed for essential building maintenance and structural works. Patrons are encouraged to utilize digital library resources or visit alternative branches until further notice.
  • Water Infrastructure: Active construction continues on the Highfields Reservoirs Project. This major investment is part of the council’s long-term strategy to ensure water security for growing northern corridors.
