Midweek Highlights: Creative Displays and Big Screen Premieres

Happy Wednesday, Toowoomba! As we step into April, the Garden City is buzzing with a blend of artistic expression, community gatherings, and some highly anticipated cinema releases. Whether you are looking to immerse yourself in local art or enjoy a night out with the family, there is plenty to see and do today, April 1, 2026.

Art and Exhibitions

Today is a fantastic day for gallery hopping across the region. At the UniSQ Art Gallery, the Colour Pop exhibition continues its run. This vibrant collection, presented in partnership with the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery, explores contemporary creativity through a lens of bold hues and innovative design. It is open for viewing on the ground floor of B Block at the West Street campus from 10:30 AM.

For those willing to take a short drive, Rosalie Gallery in Goombungee is hosting The White Rabbit: A Journey into the Unknown. This unique exhibition by the Darling Downs Textile Art Group features a study in white textiles, exploring themes of adventure and growth. Meanwhile, the Crows Nest Gallery features ceramicist Sarah Hotchin’s Ode to Tidal Whispers, a deeply personal installation that translates memories and journal entries into tactile clay forms. Both galleries are open today from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

Community Meetups

The ACA Toowoomba Chapter is holding its monthly meeting this evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at 90 Jellicoe Street. This session focuses on the critical topic of supporting vulnerable clients through the court process, featuring guest speaker Lesley Jarrett from P.A.C.T. It is an excellent opportunity for local professionals and community members to engage with important social advocacy and networking.

At the Cinema

Movie buffs are in for a treat today with major events at local theaters including Event Cinemas Grand Central and the Strand. Today marks the official Australian release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, a sequel to the 2023 hit that promises to take audiences on a journey beyond the stars. Additionally, fans of Zendaya and Robert Pattinson can catch an exclusive advance screening of The Drama, a high-stakes romantic thriller that is already generating significant buzz before its wider release.

Evening Entertainment

Wrap up your Wednesday with some local sounds at Bone Idol Brewery. Their weekly Open Stage kicks off at 6:00 PM, providing a platform for local musicians to showcase their talent in a relaxed, community-focused setting. It is the perfect spot to grab a local brew and enjoy the diverse musical talent our city has to offer as the sun sets on the first day of April.
