Council to Vote on Major Infrastructure and Committee Recommendations

Today, Tuesday, 17 March 2026, the Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will gather at City Hall for its monthly Ordinary Meeting. Commencing at 9:00 AM, this session serves as the primary decision-making forum for the region, where Mayor Geoff McDonald and the council body will deliberate on a variety of local governance issues, ranging from urban planning to vital infrastructure upgrades.

Review of Committee Deliberations

The agenda for today’s session is largely informed by the committee meetings held last week, on March 10. During those sessions, councillors reviewed detailed reports across several key portfolios. Today, the full Council is expected to formalize decisions on recommendations from the following committees:

  • Planning and Development Committee
  • Water and Waste Committee
  • Infrastructure Committee
  • Environment and Community Committee
  • Corporate Services Committee
  • Economic Development Committee

Infrastructure and Water Security Focus

Significant attention today is expected to fall on the region’s ongoing infrastructure commitments. High-priority items include the Cressbrook Dam Safety Improvement Project, which remains a cornerstone of Toowoomba’s long-term water security strategy. Additionally, the Council is set to review progress on the Searle Street Stormwater Project, an initiative aimed at enhancing flood resilience between the Drayton and West Streets intersection. These projects represent a significant portion of the current capital works budget, and today’s votes will be critical for ensuring that construction timelines remain on track as the mid-year period approaches.

Tenders and Economic Development

The Council will also address several open tenders and commercial arrangements. Items listed for consideration include preferred supplier arrangements for landscaping supplies and ground leases for the Toowoomba City Aerodrome. These decisions are part of a broader economic strategy intended to streamline council operations and support local industry. The Mayor is also expected to provide updates on various community business cases, including the ongoing development plans for the Toowoomba Art Museum, which continues to be a point of interest for the local community.

Public Access and Transparency

In line with the Council’s commitment to transparency, today’s meeting at 541 Ruthven Street is open to the public. For residents who cannot attend in person, the proceedings are being live-streamed. While the majority of the session is public, the Council may move into a closed session to discuss confidential matters, such as specific contract values or legal advice, before returning to the public forum to announce the final outcomes. Official minutes of the meeting will be made available to the public within ten working days.
