Toowoomba Regional Council Hosts Strategic Summit at City Hall Precinct

Friday, March 13, 2026, marks a significant day for the Toowoomba Region’s cultural and economic policy as the Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) hosts the Toowoomba Creative Industries Summit. Held at The Annexe, located within the City Hall precinct, the summit is a government-led initiative designed to bring together practitioners, entrepreneurs, and representatives from various arts organizations.

The primary focus of today’s session is to examine current and future trends within the arts sector. Council officials and industry leaders are meeting to facilitate strategic planning, ensuring that the region's creative industries are well-positioned to support long-term growth and social vibrancy. Key agenda items for today's summit include:

  • Analysis of emerging trends in regional arts and culture for 2026 and beyond.
  • Workshops focused on strengthening the local creative economy and entrepreneurial support systems.
  • Consultations regarding the integration of creative sectors into the broader regional planning scheme.

Mayor Geoff McDonald recently underscored the importance of this official gathering, noting that the creative industries are a vital component of Toowoomba’s identity and economic resilience. The summit is part of a broader effort by the council to balance infrastructure requirements with liveability and cultural investment.

Additional Government and Regional Forums

In addition to the council-led summit, Toowoomba is the site of other high-level government-supported activities today. The Motherland 2026 National Conference is currently underway at the Oaks Hotel. Presented in partnership with the Queensland Government, this session focuses on rural motherhood and community resilience, drawing hundreds of attendees to discuss the specific challenges and advocacy priorities facing rural regions.

Furthermore, the Ready for the Future Network Event is taking place today at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) Darling Heights campus. Supported by state government frameworks, this forum aims to bridge the gap between regional education and industry, focusing on vocational education and training (VET) and post-school pathways for the city's youth.

While today’s activities are centered on these strategic summits and stakeholder forums, the Toowoomba Regional Council will return to its legislative calendar next week. The next Ordinary Meeting of Council, where formal resolutions and voting sessions are conducted, is scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
