Essential Roadwork: Horton Street Closure

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) advises residents and commuters of scheduled asphalt patching work commencing on Tuesday, 10 February 2026. Horton Street, specifically the section between Herries Street and Kitchener Street, will be closed to through traffic to facilitate these repairs. The closure is scheduled to remain in place from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm daily, with work expected to conclude by Friday, 13 February, weather permitting.

While resident access to properties within the work zone will be maintained, all other traffic will be diverted via posted detours. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time and to exercise caution when traveling near work crews. These repairs are part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to improving road safety and infrastructure longevity across the central district.

Weekly Council Committee Meetings

In accordance with the 2026 meeting schedule, Tuesday, 10 February, serves as the primary day for Council standing committee sessions. These meetings allow Councillors to review reports and make recommendations on key regional issues. The scheduled committees for the day include:

  • Planning and Development Committee
  • Water and Waste Committee
  • Infrastructure Committee
  • Environment and Community Committee
  • Corporate Services Committee
  • Economic Development Committee

Community members are welcome to attend these sessions at the City Hall Annex to observe the decision-making process. Agendas for these meetings are available for public viewing on the Council website prior to the sessions.

Public Health Advisory: Measles Vigilance

Darling Downs Health continues to urge the community to remain alert for measles symptoms following a confirmed case detected in the region in late January. While the immediate risk has stabilized, the public health unit advises that anyone who was present at the Toowoomba Medical and Dental Centre or the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Emergency Department during the identified exposure windows in late January should remain vigilant for up to 21 days. Symptoms typically include a high fever, cough, runny nose, and sore red eyes, followed by a blotchy red rash. Residents experiencing these symptoms should phone their GP or contact 13HEALTH before visiting a clinic in person to prevent further transmission.

Local Infrastructure and Gallery Updates

Infrastructure teams are currently active at the Bell Street Bus Interchange as part of a scheduled facility upgrade. Work includes the transition to energy-efficient LED lighting and the replacement of the main switchboard to ensure the ongoing reliability of the interchange’s safety systems. Additionally, the Crows Nest and Rosalie Galleries remain open today featuring the exhibitions “Echoes” and “Pigeon Teeth,” providing residents with local cultural opportunities throughout the week.
