Official City Notice: Scheduled Road Closures and Maintenance

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has announced essential road maintenance and infrastructure upgrades affecting several key areas on Tuesday, 17 February 2026. Residents and commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays.

  • Creek Street & Horton Street (East Toowoomba): Both streets will be CLOSED to all through traffic on Tuesday, 17 February, from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. Crews will be conducting urgent asphalt patching work. Resident access will be maintained where possible, but through traffic must use signed detours.
  • Ballin Drive (Centenary Heights): A full road closure remains in effect between Mackenzie Street and Stenner Street. This closure is necessary for major water main replacement works and is expected to continue through to late March.
  • Bridge Street & West Street (Newtown): Northbound and southbound slip lanes at the Bridge Street intersection are closed for ongoing upgrades. These works are scheduled for completion by 22 February.
  • Toowoomba Bypass: Motorists are reminded of fixed lane closures on both northbound and southbound lanes between the Warrego Highway West interchange (Charlton) and the Gore Highway interchange (Athol). These restrictions will remain in place daily from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm until March.

Public Health Advisory: Measles Vigilance and Maternity Services

Darling Downs Health continues to urge the Toowoomba community to remain vigilant following a confirmed case of measles in the region earlier this month. Residents should monitor for symptoms, including fever, cough, and a blotchy rash. If symptoms develop, please contact your GP or 13 HEALTH before arriving at a clinic.

In addition, Darling Downs Health has commenced an independent assurance review of Toowoomba Hospital’s maternity services. This follow-up to the recent culture review aims to ensure the highest standards of care. A new dedicated Midwife Guide role has also been established this month to provide additional support and advocacy for local families.

Public Facilities and Project Updates

The Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery remains closed for significant building rectification following storm damage. Restoration of the internal roof and preservation of the collection are ongoing, with the facility expected to reopen in mid-2026. In the interim, exhibition programs have been relocated to the Crows Nest and Rosalie Galleries.

Council also confirms the successful completion of the Bowenville-Moola Road upgrade. The 2.4km stretch has now reopened to two-way traffic with improved pavement strength and wider lanes to better serve heavy vehicles and the local agricultural community.
