Morning Commute Overview

Toowoomba drivers should prepare for several localized road closures and ongoing highway restrictions this Friday, 6 February 2026. While the major highway networks remain functional, asphalt patching and infrastructure upgrades in the city center and the western outskirts are expected to create bottlenecks during the morning and afternoon peaks. Commuters are advised to allow an extra 10 to 15 minutes of travel time, particularly when navigating the Toowoomba Bypass or the northern end of Ruthven Street.

Major Arteries and Highway Updates

  • Toowoomba Bypass: TMR continues to advise of fixed lane closures on both southbound and northbound lanes. These works are active between the Warrego Highway West interchange at Charlton and the Gore Highway interchange at Athol. These restrictions operate from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Heavy vehicle operators should note that width restrictions are in place; vehicles with a ground contact width exceeding 3.5 meters must use approved detour routes.
  • Ruthven Street (North Toowoomba): Construction of new bus stops between North Street and Jones Street is entering its final scheduled day for the week. The northbound outside lane will be closed from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm. Drivers heading toward Harlaxton should expect merging delays.
  • New England Highway: Motorists traveling south toward Allora and Glengallan should be aware of ongoing roadworks and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h in active work zones.

Local Road Closures and Disruptions

The Toowoomba Regional Council has scheduled essential maintenance and asphalt patching today, resulting in the following full road closures from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm:

  • Jarrah Street: Closed to all through traffic. Local resident access is maintained via detours.
  • Coral Street: Closed for asphalt patching works. Motorists should follow the posted signage and avoid the area if possible.
  • Cory Street: Located between Taylor and Russell Streets, this area is subject to disruptions due to ongoing bluestone kerb repairs. While not fully closed, traffic management is in place.

Public Transport Alerts

Translink services are currently running on a regular Friday timetable; however, the construction on Ruthven Street may cause minor delays for northbound bus routes. Passengers using stops near the North Street intersection should check for temporary boarding points. No significant rail disruptions have been reported for the West Moreton line as of this morning.

Commuter Advice

With fine weather forecast, construction crews are expected to be at full capacity today. Please maintain a safe distance from workers and obey all temporary speed reductions. If your route involves the Toowoomba Bypass, consider using the Warrego Highway through the city if your vehicle dimensions permit and you wish to avoid the fixed lane closures near Charlton.
