Public Notice: Toowoomba Infrastructure Upgrades and Community Health Roundup

Official City Notices for Monday, 16 March 2026
Toowoomba Regional Council and local health authorities have issued several official notices and advisories active for Monday, 16 March 2026. Residents and commuters are encouraged to review the following updates regarding road infrastructure, public health, and community planning to ensure minimal disruption to their daily schedules.
Road Infrastructure and Traffic Management
Significant roadworks and infrastructure projects are currently underway across the region. Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and adhere to all posted signage and detours.
- Reichle Road, Southern District: A full road closure remains in effect for flood recovery culvert replacement works. This closure is scheduled to continue through to the end of March 2026. A detour is available via Owen’s Scrub Road, Grasstree Road, Church Road, and Missen Road.
- Highfields Road Intersection Upgrades: Major construction work on the Highfields Road intersections has commenced as of March 2026. This project includes the installation of new roundabouts at the intersections of Kratzke Road and O’Brien Road. Residents should expect temporary lane closures and deep excavations in the area.
- Toowoomba Bypass (Warrego Highway): Fixed lane closures continue on both southbound and northbound lanes between the Warrego Highway West interchange at Charlton and the Gore Highway interchange at Athol. These works are expected to persist throughout March 2026.
- Blackspot Program Upgrades: Road upgrade works continue on Gowrie Lilyvale Road and Smiths Road. Smiths Road remains closed to through traffic (local access excepted) as crews finalize safety improvements scheduled for completion this month.
Public Health Advisory: Ongoing Measles Vigilance
The Darling Downs Public Health Unit continues to monitor the region following a confirmed case of measles detected in Toowoomba. Health authorities urge the community to remain vigilant for symptoms, which typically include high fever, a persistent cough, runny nose, and a distinctive red blotchy rash. Residents who suspect they have symptoms are advised to contact their healthcare provider or 13 HEALTH before visiting a clinic in person to prevent further transmission.
Community Services and Planning
Several community and planning updates are in effect this week to support regional growth and cultural engagement:
- Temporary Local Planning Instrument (TLPI 01/2026): Council reminds residents and developers that TLPI 01/2026, regarding the Table of Assessment for Building Works, is now in effect across the entire Toowoomba Regional Council planning scheme area. This instrument streamlines the assessment process for local development applications.
- Crows Nest Gallery Exhibition: Ceramic artist Sarah Hotchin’s exhibition, "Ode to Tidal Whispers," is now open to the public. The exhibition will be on display at the Crows Nest Gallery until 12 April 2026.
- Library Programs: Toowoomba Regional Libraries continue to host "Playful by Nature" sessions this Monday. These sessions are designed for families to engage in imaginative and messy play at various branch locations throughout the region.
