Public Notice: Toowoomba Infrastructure Upgrades and Community Health Advisory

City Services and Infrastructure Updates
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has issued several critical updates regarding roadwork and infrastructure projects active for Saturday, 21 March 2026. Residents and commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly as multiple short-term closures and detours are in effect across the region.
- East Toowoomba: A short-term road closure is active on Boyden Street, between Curzon Street and Wirra Wirra Street, for essential maintenance. This closure is scheduled to remain in place through March 27.
- Bitumen Reseal Program: As part of the region-wide resurfacing initiative, several streets will experience daily closures from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm until March 25. These include Joffre Street, Johnson Street, and Lamington Street in East Toowoomba, as well as Denis Street. Residents in Harristown should expect similar disruptions on Camden, Christopher, and Devine Streets.
- Highfields Road Intersections: Major construction has commenced on the Central Highfields Intersections project. Motorists should anticipate lane closures and detours at the intersections of Highfields Road with Lauder Drive and Rogers Drive. Access to local businesses and the Highfields Cultural Centre is being maintained via O’Brien Road.
- Water Main Works: In Centenary Heights, Ballin Drive remains closed between Mackenzie Street and Stenner Street for critical water main replacement. This work is expected to conclude by the end of March.
Public Health Advisory: Measles Vigilance
The Darling Downs Public Health Unit has renewed its alert for the Toowoomba community following a confirmed local case of measles. Health authorities are urging residents to monitor for symptoms such as high fever, a persistent cough, runny nose, and a characteristic red blotchy rash. Because measles is highly contagious, individuals who suspect they may have symptoms are strictly advised to phone their GP or contact 13HEALTH before visiting a clinic or emergency department to prevent further transmission in waiting areas.
Community Facilities and Public Tenders
Several community service adjustments and official notices are active this weekend:
- Clifton Library: The facility remains temporarily closed for essential building maintenance and internal works. Patrons are encouraged to utilize the Council’s digital library resources or visit alternative branches until the maintenance program is finalized.
- Public Tenders: Council has officially opened a new tender for the Provision of Pest Management Services (TRC000524) as of March 21. Interested parties can access documentation via the VendorPanel portal.
- Cultural Events: The Crows Nest Gallery is currently hosting the exhibition "Ode to Tidal Whispers" by Sarah Hotchin. This tactile ceramic installation is open to the public through mid-April.
