Public Notice: Road Closures and Health Advisories for February 5

Official City Notice Roundup: Thursday, 5 February 2026
Toowoomba Regional Council and Queensland Health have issued several important notices for residents today. This briefing covers essential road maintenance, public health alerts, and community advocacy initiatives currently active across the region. Residents are encouraged to plan their commutes and health checks accordingly.
Urgent Roadworks and Traffic Disruptions
Toowoomba Regional Council has scheduled several essential infrastructure repairs for today that will impact local traffic flow. Motorists are advised to follow all posted detours and allow for extra travel time.
- Ipswich Street: A total road closure is in place today, 5 February, between Mackenzie Street and Cohoe Street. The closure is effective from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm to facilitate asphalt patching. Resident access will be maintained, but through traffic must use the marked diversions.
- Ruthven Street: The northbound outside lane between North Street and Jones Street remains closed from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm. This closure is part of ongoing bus stop construction works scheduled to continue through Friday.
- Cory Street: Residents should expect ongoing traffic disruptions between Taylor Street and Russell Street due to bluestone kerb repair works. These works are expected to continue throughout the month of February.
Public Health Alert: Measles Monitoring
Darling Downs Health continues to advise the community to remain vigilant following a confirmed case of measles in the region. Although the initial exposure occurred in late January, the 21-day monitoring window remains active for anyone who visited the following locations:
- St Vincent's Private Hospital: Emergency Department on Thursday, 22 January, between 10:00 am and 2:30 pm.
- Toowoomba Medical and Dental Centre: James Street location on Tuesday, 20 January, between 7:30 am and 9:35 am.
Symptoms to watch for include fever, lethargy, runny nose, and a blotchy red rash. Residents who suspect they may be developing symptoms are urged to contact their GP via telephone before attending in person to prevent further spread.
Council Advocacy and Community Updates
Mayor Geoff McDonald has officially released the Council’s 2026/27 State Government Budget Advocacy Priorities. The region is seeking $30 million for the first stage of the Toowoomba Region Sports Precinct and $3 million to bolster public transport connectivity. These projects are designated as critical for supporting the region’s rapid population growth.
Additionally, the Summer Tunes free concert series continues this weekend. While today is a workday, residents are reminded that free live music will be held at local parks this coming Saturday as part of the Council's summer community engagement program. Finally, local non-profit groups have until 28 February to apply for the current round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, which offers grants up to $35,000.
