Public Notice: Road Closures and Essential Infrastructure Updates – Feb 16

Essential Council Notices for Toowoomba Residents
Toowoomba Regional Council has issued several public notices and maintenance alerts effective for Monday, 16 February 2026. Residents and commuters are advised to review the following schedules for road closures, water main works, and regional infrastructure developments to minimize travel disruptions.
Roadwork and Local Maintenance
Maintenance crews are conducting asphalt repairs and intersection upgrades at several key locations today. Please follow all detours and signage provided by traffic management personnel.
- Creek Street (East Toowoomba): The road is closed today, Monday, 16 February, and tomorrow, 17 February, between 6:30 am and 3:00 pm. Crews are on-site to undertake asphalt patching. Resident access is maintained, but through traffic should use alternative routes.
- Horton Street (East Toowoomba): A full road closure is also in effect on Horton Street today and tomorrow from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm for patching work.
- Bridge Street and West Street Intersection (Newtown): Significant disruptions are expected as the Northbound and Southbound slip lanes remain closed for a major intersection upgrade. This closure is scheduled to last until Sunday, 22 February.
- Ballin Drive (Centenary Heights): Road closures remain in place between Mackenzie Street and Stenner Street for ongoing water main works. This project is expected to be active through the end of March.
- FGG Couper Road (Westbrook): Ongoing gravel resheeting works have closed this road to through traffic; the project is slated for completion by Thursday, 19 February.
Regional Transport and Infrastructure
State-led projects continue to impact regional travel, particularly for heavy vehicles and long-distance commuters:
- Toowoomba Bypass: The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is maintaining fixed lane closures on both northbound and southbound lanes between the Warrego Highway West interchange at Charlton and the Gore Highway interchange at Athol. These disruptions occur between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm daily. Oversized vehicle restrictions are in place, with mandatory detours for wide loads.
- Toowoomba Hospital Redevelopment: Early works at the Baillie Henderson Campus are nearing completion. While no major road closures are reported directly at the site entrance today, motorists should expect increased heavy vehicle movements as the project transitions toward the main construction phase.
Public Safety and Water Security
Council remains committed to long-term flood recovery and water infrastructure resilience. The 2024 Flood Recovery Program is entering its final construction phases, with permanent reconstruction works continuing at over 1,100 damaged sites across the region through mid-2026. Additionally, early construction planning for the Cressbrook Dam Safety Improvement Project is underway to ensure the region's primary water source remains secure against future weather events. Residents are encouraged to monitor the regional Disaster Dashboard for real-time updates on rain-affected roads.
