Public Notice: Regional Infrastructure Upgrades and Community Service Updates
Infrastructure and Essential Roadworks
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) continues its extensive maintenance and infrastructure program across the region. Residents and motorists are advised of several active road closures and disruptions scheduled to remain in effect through Sunday, 8 March 2026.
- Centenary Heights: Ballin Drive, between Mackenzie Street and Stenner Street, remains closed to all through traffic. This closure is required for critical water main replacement works and is expected to continue until the end of March. Local resident access is maintained via established detours.
- Yandilla: Reichle Road is closed for flood recovery culvert replacement. Motorists should utilize the detour via Owen’s Scrub Road, Grasstree Road, Church Road, and Missen Road. This work is slated for completion in late March, weather permitting.
- Glencoe: Smiths Road remains closed between Garskes Road and Gowrie Lilyvale Road for safety upgrades under the Blackspot Program. Traffic disruptions are also expected on Gowrie Lilyvale Road until mid-March.
- Resurfacing Works: The regional road resurfacing program continues in East Toowoomba, South Toowoomba, and Harristown. Residents are requested to keep road reserves clear of parked vehicles between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm to facilitate spray sealing.
Public Health Advisory: Measles Vigilance
Darling Downs Health continues to urge the Toowoomba community to remain vigilant following a confirmed case of measles in the region. Residents should monitor for symptoms including fever, a persistent cough, runny nose, and a characteristic red blotchy rash. If symptoms develop, please contact your GP or call 13HEALTH immediately. It is vital to call ahead before visiting any clinic or emergency department to prevent potential transmission in waiting areas.
Community Services and Facilities
As part of the regional maintenance schedule, the following service updates are in effect for the weekend:
- Clifton Library: The facility remains temporarily closed for essential building works and maintenance. The closure, which commenced earlier this week, is expected to continue until works are finalized. Patrons are encouraged to use digital resources or visit the nearest alternative branch during this period.
- Australasian Parks Week: Sunday, 8 March, marks the final weekend of Australasian Parks Week 2026. Residents are encouraged to visit one of the region’s 430 parks and open spaces. Following today’s activities, a final guided session is scheduled for Monday at the Queens Park Botanic Garden from 9:00 am.
Planning and Water Security
Council has officially adopted the Temporary Local Planning Instrument 01/2026 (TLPI 01/2026). This instrument streamlines assessment levels for building works across the planning area to ensure efficient development processing. Additionally, construction remains active on the Highfields Reservoirs Project, a major infrastructure investment designed to secure the region’s long-term water supply and support future growth corridors.
