Public Notice: Highfields Reservoir Project and Regional Traffic Alerts for March 2

Official Council Roundup: Monday, 2 March 2026

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) and Darling Downs Health have released a series of essential public notices and infrastructure updates for residents active today, Monday, 2 March 2026. These notices include the commencement of major water security works and several localized traffic disruptions across the region.

Major Project Commencement: Highfields Reservoirs

Today marks the start of Stage 1 for the Highfields Reservoirs Project, a significant long-term investment in the region’s water security. Beginning Monday, 2 March, TRC construction crews are commencing the installation of underground water mains. Residents and commuters should be aware of the following impacts:

  • Lawrence Road: Temporary single-lane closures will be in effect.
  • New England Highway: The left northbound lane will be closed in sections to facilitate the safe installation of infrastructure.
  • Footpath Access: Temporary closures of footpaths adjacent to Lawrence, Harch, and Kieman roads are expected through June.

Traffic and Road Closure Alerts

Motorists are advised to plan their routes around the following active roadworks and closures scheduled for today:

  • Gwenda Drive, Westbrook: A full road closure is in place between Ferguson Street and Edwin Street today, from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, for essential stormwater maintenance. Detours are signed for through traffic.
  • Ballin Drive, Centenary Heights: The closure between Mackenzie Street and Stenner Street remains active for critical water main replacements. This work is scheduled to continue through late March.
  • FGG Couper Road, Westbrook: Road closure remains in effect for gravel resheeting. This project is expected to conclude by Tuesday, 3 March.
  • Reichle Road, Yandilla: Continued closure for Flood Recovery culvert replacement works. A detour is available via Owen’s Scrub Road and Church Road.

Public Health Advisory: Measles Vigilance

Darling Downs Health continues to urge the Toowoomba community to remain alert following a confirmed case of measles detected in the region earlier this season. Residents are encouraged to monitor for symptoms including fever, persistent cough, and a red blotchy rash. If symptoms develop, please contact your GP or call 13HEALTH before visiting a clinic to ensure appropriate infection control measures are in place.

Community Reminders

Residents are reminded that the Clifton Library will be closed for essential building maintenance starting tomorrow, Tuesday, 3 March. Additionally, the Temporary Local Planning Instrument (TLPI 01/2026) regarding Building Works assessment levels remains in full effect across the planning scheme area to streamline local development applications.
