Public Notice: Essential Infrastructure Works and Weekend Service Updates
Critical Intersection Works: Bridge and West Streets
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) advises residents and motorists of significant traffic disruptions scheduled for Saturday, 7 March 2026, at the intersection of Bridge Street and West Street. These works are essential for electrical upgrades and permanent line marking. To facilitate a safe work environment, the following closures will be in place:
- Daytime Slip Lane Closures: From 6:00 am to 10:00 pm on Saturday, 7 March, the northwest and southwest slip lanes will be closed. Traffic will be detoured via signed routes.
- Full Intersection Closure: Starting at 6:00 pm on Saturday and continuing until 8:00 am on Sunday, 8 March, the main intersection will undergo a substantial closure. Southbound and westbound approaches will be inaccessible. Northbound and eastbound traffic will be diverted through available slip lanes.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if possible and allow for significant travel delays throughout the day and evening.
Ongoing Regional Road and Water Maintenance
In addition to the major works at Bridge Street, several long-term infrastructure projects remain active across the region. Residents should be aware of the following localized impacts:
- Centenary Heights: Ballin Drive remains closed to all through traffic between Mackenzie Street and Stenner Street. This full road closure is necessary for critical water main replacement works and is expected to continue through late March.
- Upper Pilton & Yandilla: Reichle Road remains closed for flood recovery culvert replacement. Detours are available via Owen’s Scrub Road and Church Road.
- Glencoe Updates: Road upgrade works under the Blackspot Program continue on Smiths Road and Gowrie Lilyvale Road, with disruptions expected to persist until mid-March.
- Toowoomba Bypass: Fixed lane closures remain in effect on the southbound and northbound lanes between Charlton and Athol during daytime hours (6:00 am to 6:00 pm).
Public Facility and Health Advisories
The Clifton Library remains temporarily closed to the public. The facility closed on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, to allow for essential building maintenance and structural repairs. Patrons are encouraged to utilize the Council’s mobile library services or digital resources during this period.
On the health front, the Darling Downs Public Health Unit maintains its advisory regarding a recent measles alert in the Toowoomba area. Residents are urged to ensure their vaccinations are up to date and to monitor for symptoms such as fever, cough, and a blotchy rash. If symptoms develop, please contact your healthcare provider via telephone before attending a clinic in person to prevent potential community transmission.
Planning and Administration
Notice is also given that the Temporary Local Planning Instrument 01/2026 remains in full effect. This instrument streamlines building work assessment levels across the region to facilitate more efficient local development. For further details on any council services or active notices, residents can contact the Council directly or visit the official Disaster Dashboard for real-time traffic updates.
