Public Health Advisory: Regional Measles Alert

The Darling Downs Public Health Unit has issued a continued health advisory for the Toowoomba region following a confirmed case of measles detected earlier this month. Health authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant for symptoms, which typically include fever, a persistent cough, a runny nose, and a red, blotchy rash. To prevent further community transmission, residents who suspect they are experiencing symptoms are strictly advised to contact their General Practitioner or call 13HEALTH before visiting a medical clinic in person. Ensuring clinics are notified in advance allows for proper isolation protocols to be followed in waiting rooms.

Roadworks and Traffic Disruptions

Toowoomba Regional Council and the Department of Transport and Main Roads have confirmed several active road closures and traffic disruptions for Wednesday, 11 March 2026. Motorists should plan for the following impacts:

  • Toowoomba Bypass (Warrego Highway): Fixed lane closures remain in effect on both southbound and northbound lanes between the Warrego Highway West interchange at Charlton and the Gore Highway interchange at Athol. These works occur daily from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Heavy vehicles with load widths exceeding 4.0 meters are required to use approved detour routes during work hours.
  • Ballin Drive, Centenary Heights: A full road closure is active between Mackenzie Street and Stenner Street to facilitate critical water main replacement works. This project is expected to continue through the end of March. Local resident access is maintained, but through traffic must follow established detours.
  • Reichle Road: This thoroughfare remains closed for flood recovery culvert replacement works. A detour is currently in place via Owen’s Scrub Road, Grasstree Road, Church Road, and Missen Road.
  • Gowrie Lilyvale Road: Traffic disruptions may occur throughout the day due to road upgrade works conducted under the Blackspot Program. Nearby Smiths Road also remains closed to through traffic.

Public Facilities and Library Services

Residents are reminded that the Clifton Library is currently closed to the public. The facility underwent a temporary closure starting Tuesday, 3 March 2026, to allow for essential building maintenance and infrastructure upgrades. During this period, patrons are encouraged to utilize the council’s online digital library services or visit alternative branches in Cambooya or Pittsworth. Further updates regarding the reopening date will be provided as works progress.

Planning and Development Notices

The Toowoomba Regional Council wishes to advise that the Temporary Local Planning Instrument 01/2026 (TLPI 01/2026) regarding Building Works is now in full effect. Adopted in February, this instrument streamlines assessment levels for building works across the entire planning scheme area. This measure is intended to support housing delivery and regional growth by providing clearer guidelines for developers and homeowners. The instrument will remain active for up to two years or until a new planning scheme is formally adopted.
