Public Notice: Essential Infrastructure Maintenance and Health Advisories

Official City Notices for Monday, 9 March 2026

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) and local health authorities have issued several important updates for residents and commuters active today, Monday, 9 March 2026. These notices cover essential road infrastructure repairs, ongoing public health monitoring, and temporary changes to community facility access across the region.

Traffic and Roadwork Alerts

Motorists are advised of several planned road closures and traffic disruptions as maintenance programs continue. Signage and traffic management measures are in place at all sites. Key impacts for today include:

  • Ipswich Street, East Toowoomba: A full road closure is in effect today between Mackenzie Street and Curzon Street for essential asphalt patching. Works are scheduled from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. Detours are in place for through traffic, though local resident access will be maintained.
  • Ballin Drive, Centenary Heights: The full road closure between Mackenzie Street and Stenner Street remains active for critical water main works. This project is expected to continue through the end of March.
  • Reichle Road: A closure remains in place for flood recovery culvert replacement works. Through traffic should use the established detours via Owen’s Scrub Road and Church Road.
  • Toowoomba Bypass: TMR reminds drivers of fixed lane closures on both southbound and northbound lanes between the Warrego Highway West interchange at Charlton and the Gore Highway interchange at Athol. These restrictions apply from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Public Health Monitoring: Measles Alert

The Darling Downs Public Health Unit continues to monitor the region following a confirmed case of measles detected in the Toowoomba area. Residents are urged to remain vigilant for symptoms, which include high fever, cough, runny nose, and a red blotchy rash. If symptoms develop, health authorities advise contacting your GP or calling 13HEALTH to arrange a telehealth consultation or a safe clinical visit to prevent further transmission in waiting rooms.

Community Services and Facilities

Council provides the following updates regarding community infrastructure and planning:

  • Clifton Library Closure: Residents are reminded that the Clifton Library is currently closed for essential building maintenance and upgrades. Patrons are encouraged to utilize online resources or visit alternative branches in the interim.
  • Planning Instrument 01/2026: The Temporary Local Planning Instrument (TLPI 01/2026) regarding assessment levels for building works is now in effect across the entire Toowoomba Regional Council planning area.
  • Central Highfields Activation: Following the recent project commencement, residents are invited to attend upcoming information sessions regarding the activation of the Central Highfields precinct.

For real-time updates on road conditions, residents are encouraged to monitor the Disaster Dashboard. Council thanks the community for their patience during these essential works.
