Official Public Notice: Road Infrastructure Updates, Health Alerts, and Flood Recovery Services

Public Notice: Essential Infrastructure Works and Community Alerts
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) and the Darling Downs Public Health Unit have released several critical updates for residents and visitors active this Sunday, 15 March 2026. These notices cover significant road infrastructure projects, public health advisories, and ongoing flood recovery efforts across the region following recent weather events.
Road Closures and Traffic Disruptions
Motorists are advised of multiple road closures and lane restrictions as Council continues its proactive maintenance and infrastructure programs. Please plan your travel accordingly and follow all established detours to ensure the safety of work crews and the public.
- Toowoomba Bypass (Warrego Highway): Fixed lane closures remain in effect on both southbound and northbound lanes until the end of March 2026. These restrictions apply during daytime hours from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm between the Warrego Highway West interchange at Charlton and the Gore Highway interchange at Athol.
- Ballin Drive, Centenary Heights: A full road closure is active between Mackenzie Street and Stenner Street. This closure is required for essential water main works and is expected to continue through the end of the month. Resident access is maintained, but through traffic must use detours.
- Reichle Road: A full closure remains in place for flood recovery culvert replacement works. Through traffic is advised to detour via Owen’s Scrub Road and Missen Road. Works are currently scheduled to conclude in late March.
- Highfields Area: Major upgrade works at the Highfields Road intersections are currently in their initial phase. Residents should expect temporary lane closures and detours near the intersections of Lauder Drive and Rogers Drive as crews relocate electrical and water services.
Public Health and Emergency Safety
In response to recent environmental and health developments, the following advisories are in effect for the Toowoomba region:
- Flood Warning and Assistance: Following the impact of Tropical Low 29U earlier this month, some areas of the region remain under watch for minor to moderate flooding. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and check the Disaster Dashboard for real-time updates. Personal hardship financial assistance and emergency grants are now available for eligible residents impacted by the March 2026 flood event.
- Measles Alert: The Darling Downs Public Health Unit continues to monitor the region following a confirmed case of measles detected in Toowoomba. Symptoms include fever, a persistent cough, and a red blotchy rash. Residents who suspect they may have symptoms are advised to contact their GP or call 13HEALTH before visiting a clinic to prevent further transmission.
Council Services and Planning
- Animal Registration: Residents are reminded that animal registration renewal payment options are now open as of March 14. Payments can be made via the TRC online portal or at regional customer service centers.
- Clifton Library: The Clifton Library remains temporarily closed for essential building maintenance. Local patrons are encouraged to utilize online digital resources or visit alternative branch locations during this maintenance period.
