Official City Notice: February 2nd Roadworks and Public Health Updates

Toowoomba Regional Council Public Notices: February 2, 2026
Welcome to the official weekly roundup of city notices, road infrastructure projects, and health advisories for the Toowoomba region. These notices are current as of Monday, 2 February 2026, and are provided to ensure residents and visitors remain informed of essential service changes and public works throughout the week. All scheduled maintenance and construction remain subject to weather conditions.
Infrastructure and Road Maintenance Works
The Toowoomba Regional Council has released its weekly roadworks and closures schedule for the period of Saturday, 31 January to Friday, 6 February 2026. Significant works are currently underway in several districts, with the following areas impacted on Monday, 2 February:
- Highfields - O'Briens Road: Significant traffic disruptions are currently occurring due to critical water main works. These works, which commenced in late January, are expected to persist until mid-February. Local motorists are advised to anticipate delays, seek alternative routes where possible, and strictly follow all on-site traffic management signage.
- East Toowoomba - Cedar Street: While specific asphalt patching is scheduled for later in the week, residents and through-traffic should note that site preparations and the positioning of heavy machinery for the weekly work program may impact local access starting today.
- Upcoming Tuesday Closures: Residents are reminded that major works on Ruthven Street (between North and Jones Streets) and Cory Street (between Taylor and Russell Streets) are scheduled to commence tomorrow, Tuesday, 3 February. The Ruthven Street project involves northbound lane closures for bus stop construction, while Cory Street will see bluestone kerb repairs.
Public Health Advisory: Varicella Vaccine Supply
Queensland Health has maintained its advisory regarding a supply shortage of the varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, which is expected to continue impacting the region through early 2026. This shortage primarily affects students who are required to complete mandatory vaccination schedules prior to commencing clinical health placements. While supplies for the general public under the National Immunisation Program remain stable, students are urged to contact their education providers to discuss alternative evidence of immunity, such as pathology results showing positive IgG for varicella.
Toowoomba Region Planning Scheme Update
Toowoomba Regional Council continues to progress the development of the new Toowoomba Region Planning Scheme and Infrastructure Plan. Following a project extension, the finalized plan is now on track for delivery in May 2026. This initiative is vital for managing the region's urban growth over the next three decades and includes large-scale infrastructure projects such as the Mt Kynoch water treatment plant upgrade and the Toowoomba to Warwick Pipeline. Residents are encouraged to monitor the Council's planning portal for updates on community consultation phases.
Water Security and Dam Safety Projects
Following a federal pre-budget submission in late January 2026, the Council has reiterated the high priority of the $270 million Cressbrook Dam Safety Improvement Project. Mandatory upgrades are required to meet current safety standards, with early construction phases expected to ramp up in mid-2026. The project will involve a widened spillway and raised dam crest to ensure robust flood mitigation for downstream communities and the protection of primary drinking water sources.
