Community Notice: Essential Infrastructure and Public Safety Updates

As the lead editor for toowoomba.news, we have compiled the following official notices and public service announcements for Tuesday, 3 February 2026. These updates are sourced from the Toowoomba Regional Council and regional health authorities to ensure residents are informed of service disruptions and health advisories affecting the region.

Major Roadworks and Traffic Disruptions

Toowoomba Regional Council has scheduled significant maintenance and construction activities for Tuesday, 3 February. Motorists are advised to plan their commutes accordingly and follow all posted signage and detours.

  • Ruthven Street: A road closure of the northbound outside lane will be in effect between North Street and Jones Street. These works are part of a bus stop construction project and are scheduled to take place between 6:00 am and 2:00 pm. Commuters should expect minor delays in the area.
  • John Street: The section between James Street and Ipswich Street will be fully closed to through traffic on Tuesday, 3 February, from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. Council crews will be undertaking essential asphalt patching work to improve road safety and longevity. Resident access will be maintained, but through traffic must use the provided detours.
  • Ipswich Street: Maintenance work is also commencing today on Ipswich Street between Suffolk Street and Mackenzie Street. Intermittent closures and traffic control measures will be in place throughout the day.

Public Health Advisory: Measles Alert

Darling Downs Health is maintaining a high-priority public health alert following the detection of a confirmed measles case within the Toowoomba community. The Darling Downs Public Health Unit is urging all residents to remain vigilant for symptoms, particularly if they have visited public spaces in recent days.

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that can lead to serious complications. Symptoms typically include a fever, cough, runny nose, and sore, red eyes, followed by a blotchy red rash. Residents who suspect they may have symptoms are advised to contact their general practitioner via telephone before arriving at the clinic to prevent potential transmission to other patients.

Council Administrative and Land Use Notices

Toowoomba Regional Council wishes to remind property owners that the February rate notice cycle is currently underway. While the official issue date for the current period is Friday, 6 February 2026, residents are encouraged to ensure their contact details are up to date. A 5% discount remains available for general rates paid in full by the designated due date in March.

Additionally, an official notice remains active regarding the Council’s intention to remove livestock gates and grids on Unnamed Road 200827 (Hendrie Road) and Pilton Valley Road in Upper Pilton. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to standardize rural road infrastructure. Any formal objections to these removals should be directed to the Chief Executive Officer in writing.

General Public Safety Reminder

With high temperatures and low-intensity heatwave conditions persisting across the Darling Downs, health officials recommend that residents stay hydrated and limit strenuous outdoor activity during the peak heat of the day. Council parks and public facilities remain open as cooling refuges for those in need.
