Bridge Street and West Street Intersection Alert

Residents and early morning commuters should be aware of significant activity at the intersection of Bridge Street and West Street this morning, Sunday, 8 March 2026. A full intersection closure has been in place since Saturday evening to facilitate essential electrical and line marking works. While the intersection is scheduled to reopen by 8:00 am today, drivers traveling before this time will find southbound and westbound approaches completely closed. Detours are currently in place via slip lanes for those heading north and east. Please exercise caution as crews finalize their work and demobilize equipment from the site.

Ongoing Disruptions on the Toowoomba Bypass

Travelers utilizing the Toowoomba Bypass today will continue to encounter fixed lane closures on both southbound and northbound lanes. These works are expected to persist through the end of March 2026. Specifically, disruptions are concentrated between the Warrego Highway West interchange at Charlton and the Gore Highway interchange at Athol. While Sunday traffic is generally lighter, the 6:00 am to 6:00 pm work window remains active. Heavy vehicle operators should note that load width restrictions are strictly enforced; vehicles wider than 3.5 meters or loads exceeding 4.0 meters must utilize the approved detour routes via Toowoomba Cecil Plains Road and Carrington Road.

Suburban and Regional Roadwork Updates

Several localized road closures remain in effect across the region today, requiring detours for local traffic:

  • Centenary Heights: Ballin Drive remains closed to through traffic between Mackenzie Street and Stenner Street for water main upgrades. This closure is slated to continue until the end of the month.
  • Toowoomba City: Gore Street is closed between Keding Road and Barwick Street for pavement reconstruction. Commuters should follow signed detours until the scheduled completion on 13 March.
  • Glencoe: Smiths Road is fully closed between Garskes Road and Gowrie Lilyvale Road as part of the Blackspot Program. Nearby Gowrie Lilyvale Road may also experience intermittent delays.
  • Yandilla: Reichle Road remains closed for flood recovery culvert works, with detours available via Owen's Scrub Road and Church Road.

Public Transport and Monday Preparation

Bus services are operating on a standard Sunday timetable today. Commuters are reminded that starting tomorrow, Monday 9 March, a major permanent stop closure will take effect on Ruthven Street. We recommend checking your specific route via the Translink app today to ensure your Monday morning commute remains unaffected by these changes. Additionally, minor delays may still affect the 904 and 950 routes due to residual network congestion from the weekend's infrastructure projects.
