Significant Disruptions at Bridge and West Street Intersection

Motorists in Toowoomba should prepare for substantial disruptions today, Saturday, 7 March 2026, due to a series of planned infrastructure upgrades and maintenance projects across the city. The most significant impact is expected at the intersection of Bridge Street and West Street, where multiple closures are scheduled to facilitate electrical and line marking works. Starting at 6:00 am this morning, the northwest and southwest slip lanes have been closed to all traffic, with detours in place. These slip lanes will remain shut until at least 10:00 pm tonight.

Furthermore, a full intersection closure will commence this evening at 6:00 pm and remain in effect until 8:00 am tomorrow, Sunday, 8 March. During this period, the southbound and westbound approaches will be entirely blocked. Northbound and eastbound traffic will be diverted via the available slip lanes to move west and north respectively. Toowoomba Regional Council advises commuters to avoid this intersection if possible and allow for extra travel time when navigating the city's north-west.

Toowoomba Bypass and Highway Restrictions

Long-term maintenance on the Toowoomba Bypass continues to affect heavy vehicle movement and general through traffic. Fixed lane closures are currently active in both the northbound and southbound lanes between the Warrego Highway West interchange at Charlton and the Gore Highway interchange at Athol. These works, focused on pavement stabilization, are active from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm daily through the end of March. Vehicles with a ground contact width exceeding 3.5 meters must utilize approved detours via Taylor Street and Anzac Avenue.

• Centenary Heights: Ballin Drive remains closed between Mackenzie Street and Stenner Street for critical water main works. This closure is expected to last until late March, with through traffic directed to follow established signage.
