Toowoomba Traffic and Commute Update: Friday, 13 March 2026

Good morning, Toowoomba. As we head into the final commute of the week, several significant roadworks projects are reaching their conclusion today, while long-term infrastructure upgrades continue to impact major arteries. Here is what you need to know to navigate the Garden City this Friday.

Key Local Road Closures and Disruptions

Commuters in Westbrook and the City should prepare for the final day of scheduled disruptions on two major local links. Gore Street in Westbrook, specifically the stretch between Keding Road and Barwick Street, remains closed today for the completion of pavement reconstruction. While through traffic is being detoured, local resident access is maintained. Normal traffic flow is expected to resume over the weekend.

In the CBD, Taylor Street between Mort Street and Mill Street continues to experience minor disruptions due to bluestone kerb repair works. These works are also scheduled to conclude today, which should ease access to the northern industrial and rail precincts by Monday.

Other active local sites include:

  • Nathua Court: Full road closure today between 6:30 am and 3:00 pm for road gully unit upgrades.
  • Ballin Drive (Centenary Heights): Remains closed between Mackenzie and Stenner Streets for critical water main works. This closure is expected to persist until the end of March.
  • Glencoe Area: Both Gowrie Lilyvale Road and Smiths Road are experiencing closures and upgrades under the Blackspot Program; detours are in place.

Highway and Bypass Restrictions

Motorists using the Toowoomba Bypass should be aware of fixed lane closures between the Warrego Highway West interchange at Charlton and the Gore Highway interchange at Athol. These closures are active from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Heavy vehicle operators with loads exceeding 4.0 metres in width must follow the approved detours via Carrington Road and Taylor Street during these hours.

On the New England Highway, planning investigations continue between Geham and Harlaxton. While no major construction is currently blocking lanes, increased signage and survey crews may be present. For those heading west toward Chinchilla, major flood detours remain in place on the Warrego Highway via Condamine, as sections of the highway remain closed following recent weather events.

Public Transport and Rail

TransLink has reminded passengers that the Ruthven Street permanent stop closure remains in effect as of this week. Commuters should check the TransLink app for the nearest alternative boarding points. Additionally, while no specific cancellations have been announced for Friday morning, recent staff availability issues have led to intermittent delays on Route 950; please allow extra travel time if you rely on this service.
