Community Briefing: Toowoomba Regional Council Public Notices and Health Advisories

Official Public Notices: Tuesday, 17 March 2026
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) and Darling Downs Health have issued several important notices for residents and motorists active today, Tuesday, 17 March 2026. These advisories include critical infrastructure updates, public health warnings, and essential service changes across the region.
Infrastructure and Road Disruption Updates
Extensive maintenance and infrastructure programs continue to affect traffic flow in several districts. Motorists are advised to plan for the following active closures and disruptions:
- Centenary Heights: Ballin Drive remains closed to all through traffic between Mackenzie Street and Stenner Street. This closure is required for critical water main replacement works and is expected to stay in effect until the end of March. Local resident access is being maintained via established detours.
- Yandilla: Reichle Road is currently closed for flood recovery culvert replacement. A detour is in place via Owen’s Scrub Road, Grasstree Road, Church Road, and Missen Road. Completion is slated for late March, pending weather conditions.
- Toowoomba Bypass: The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) continues fixed lane closures on both southbound and northbound lanes between the Warrego Highway West interchange at Charlton and the Gore Highway interchange at Athol. Restrictions are in place from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.
- Glencoe: Smiths Road remains closed between Garskes Road and Gowrie Lilyvale Road for safety upgrades under the Blackspot Program. Road upgrade works are also causing minor traffic disruptions on Gowrie Lilyvale Road.
- Regional Resurfacing: Spray sealing and resurfacing works are ongoing today in East Toowoomba, South Toowoomba, and Harristown. Residents are requested to keep road reserves clear of parked vehicles during daylight hours to facilitate these works.
Public Health Advisory: Measles Vigilance
Darling Downs Health continues to urge the Toowoomba community to remain vigilant following a recently confirmed case of measles in the region. Residents should monitor for symptoms including fever, a persistent cough, runny nose, and a characteristic red blotchy rash. If symptoms develop, health officials advise contacting your GP or 13HEALTH immediately. It is vital to phone ahead before visiting any clinic or emergency department to prevent potential transmission in waiting areas.
Planning and Facility Updates
Council has officially implemented the Temporary Local Planning Instrument 01/2026 (TLPI 01/2026). This instrument streamlines assessment levels for building works to ensure efficient development processing across the region. Additionally, residents are reminded that the 2026 land valuations were issued on March 11. Property owners who have not received their notice should contact the Valuer-General’s office to update their details.
In community services, the Clifton Library remains temporarily closed for essential building maintenance. Patrons are encouraged to utilize digital resources or visit alternative branches until the facility reopens later this month. Meanwhile, construction continues on the Highfields Reservoirs Project and the Cressbrook Dam spillway widening to secure the region's long-term water supply.
