City Update: Regional Health Advisory and Infrastructure Schedule

Measles Health Alert: Community Monitoring Required
Darling Downs Health has issued an ongoing advisory following a confirmed case of measles in the Toowoomba region. While no new exposure sites have been identified this weekend, the public health unit remains in a high-priority monitoring phase. Residents who visited the Toowoomba Medical and Dental Centre on James Street on Tuesday, 20 January, or the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Emergency Department on Thursday, 22 January, are urged to remain vigilant.
Symptoms of the virus can take up to 21 days to manifest post-exposure. Authorities advise residents to watch for the following signs:
- High fever and lethargy.
- A moist cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes.
- A distinctive red, blotchy rash beginning on the face and spreading to the rest of the body.
If you suspect you have contracted measles, it is critical to contact your medical provider via telephone before arriving at a clinic to prevent the further spread of the highly contagious virus.
Low-Level Water Restrictions Remain in Effect
Toowoomba Regional Council reminds all residents that low-level water restrictions continue to apply across the city and the bulk water supply areas. Under these guidelines, the target consumption is 200 litres per person, per day. As we are currently in the summer period, specific outdoor watering rules apply to ensure the long-term sustainability of our regional dams.
- Hand-held watering of new gardens and lawns is permitted for one hour daily for the first 14 days of establishment.
- Established lawns must not be watered using the town supply.
- General cleaning of equipment and vehicle washing is permitted using a trigger nozzle or high-pressure unit before 10:00 am and after 4:00 pm on any day except Monday.
Upcoming 2026 General Rate Notices
Property owners are advised that the general rate notices for the first half of 2026 are scheduled for formal issue on Friday, 6 February 2026. These notices reflect the cost of regional services and infrastructure maintenance for the current financial year. Residents are encouraged to register for digital delivery through the Council’s online portal to ensure they receive their documentation promptly. Payments made by the due date of 11 March 2026 will be eligible for a 5% discount on relevant rating categories.
Road Maintenance Program: February 1–6
The Council’s weekly roadworks and maintenance program remains active. While major construction is restricted on Sunday to minimize noise in residential areas, motorists should prepare for altered traffic conditions beginning Monday morning. Significant works are scheduled for Ruthven Street between North and Jones Streets, and kerb repairs will commence on Cory Street later this week. Please adhere to all posted speed reductions and follow the instructions of traffic controllers in active maintenance zones.
