Official City Notices: Major Roadworks and Public Health Advisories for 7 April 2026

Toowoomba Regional Council Public Service Announcement
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has issued several critical notices for Tuesday, 7 April 2026, regarding major infrastructure milestones, road closures, and essential health information. Residents are encouraged to review these updates to minimize travel disruptions and ensure community safety.
Major Infrastructure: Clifton Road Upgrade Commences
Starting today, Tuesday, 7 April 2026, Council crews will begin site setup for the Clifton Road Upgrade Project at North Branch. This project, which is expected to conclude in December 2026, involves widening the existing roadway to eight meters, pavement reconstruction, and drainage improvements. While site preparation begins today, a hard road closure between Leslie Bridge Road and Volker Road is scheduled to take effect from 15 April. Currently, motorists should expect increased construction traffic and potential minor delays in the North Branch area.
Urgent Road Closures: South Street and West Street
Significant roadworks are also commencing today in the city center. A full road closure is in place on South Street, specifically the section between West Street and Drayton Road. This closure is scheduled from Tuesday, 7 April, through to Thursday, 9 April 2026. The works include:
- Asphalt resurfacing and pavement strengthening.
- Upgrading line markings for vehicles and cyclists.
- Modifications to traffic light phasing at major intersections.
Detours are clearly signposted via neighboring streets. Local access for residents will be maintained where possible, but through traffic is advised to seek alternative routes to avoid congestion.
Public Health Alert: Measles Advisory
The Darling Downs Public Health Unit remains on high alert following confirmed cases of measles within the region. Health officials are urging residents to monitor for symptoms, which include fever, tiredness, runny nose, cough, and a blotchy red rash. Due to the highly contagious nature of the virus, those experiencing symptoms are strictly advised to phone their GP or medical center before arriving to prevent further transmission in waiting rooms. Vaccination remains the most effective defense, and the health unit recommends checking immunization records for two doses of the MMR vaccine.
Planning and Community Notices
Council also reminds residents of the ongoing implementation of the Temporary Local Planning Instrument 01/2026, which governs building work assessments across the region. Additionally, registrations are now open for the 32nd annual Mayoral Prayer Breakfast, a key community fundraiser scheduled for later this month. For those interested in regional development, the Toowoomba Region Futures program continues its drafting phase, with the new Planning Scheme on track for state review later this year.
